Lets rewind and look at Mahalakshmi Iyer, at the age of seven, in a competition. She sang like a dream in front of stalwarts, such as the late Bollywood actor Rajendra Kumar, his son and actor, Kumar Gaurav, along with many other luminaries in the audience. She didn’t only win that competition (mind you, she was well below the qualifying age, and an exception was made for her participation!), but was also unanimously termed as the ‘Next Big Thing’ by everyone in the audience. And how correct they all were! However, as a little girl, Mahalakshmi had an inclination towards becoming a Bharat Natyam dancer.

Mahalakshmi would also have loved to be a teacher. She has a penchant for sharing her knowledge, and in fact, would love to teach music to children. Mahalakshmi is a voracious reader, and her all-time favorite books are ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho, and ‘Many Lives, Many Masters’ by Dr. Brian Weiss. Her creativity also extends into the world of sketching and she absolutely loves doing it. She enjoys cooking too. Mahalakshmi’s fashion mantra is simply — comfort, comfort and more comfort!

This melodious singer, who has a flair for languages, sings in almost ten different Indian languages. She strongly believes that it is imperative for a singer or an artist to know the meaning of the lyrics, so that they can feel the soul and spirit of the song. She sums up her journey until now in three simple words - exciting, tough and satisfying. She hopes that it will continue to remain just as satisfying until the end of her singing career!
